Beautiful Stratford-upon-Avon is famous as the birthplace of perhaps the world’s most famous author, William Shakespeare. A historic market town, Stratford still has many buildings left standing that Shakespeare himself would recognise. Including the Tudor half timbered house that he grew up in.
Stratford is home to the world famous Royal Shakespeare Company, who have three theatres in the town – and who perform a wide selection of plays (both historical and contemporary). It also boasts a number of fascinating museums including The Shakespeare Centre, his wife’s cottage, his mother’s farm and Nash’s House (an exceptionally well preserved Tudor house, similar to Shakespeare’s final residence).
A beautiful market town, rich in literary history.
The river Avon runs through the town and not only provides lovely riverside walks but also plenty of opportunity to take boat trips.
The imposing and well preserved Warwick Castle is only a 15 minute drive away and should definitely be included in a visit to the area. The British Motor Museum at Gaydon is 25 minutes away and houses the world’s biggest exhibition of historic British cars. Both attractions offer excellent space for private functions.
Located in the Warwickshire, West Midlands, Shakespeare country is easily accessible from London; just a 2-hour drive.
